Reflections on Web Development and Digital Marketing

These are my reflections on web development and digital marketing. I’ve had the privilege of diving deep into the world of web development, ecommerce, and digital marketing. What started in Bawlf High School as a curiosity and a drive to create has grown into hands-on experience that garnered me valuable experience beyond what I learned at the University of Advancing Technology.

Building Websites and Learning WordPress:
WordPress has been at the core of my work for two years, from designing and development to deployment and managing. I’ve learned that creating a website isn’t just about aesthetics, it’s about usability, functionality, and performance. Mobile-first design, SEO, and responsive layouts are essential for user experience.

Ecommerce Experience: WooCommerce, Shopify, and Laravel:
Managing ecommerce platforms has been a significant part of my journey. I’ve worked with WooCommerce and built my own hobby-scale Shopify store, and I spent a year and a half managing a Laravel webstore. These experiences taught me how to handle product listings, payment integrations, and analytics tracking. Most importantly, I learned how marketing, design, and functionality need to work seamlessly together to drive sales and create a smooth customer experience.

Digital Marketing and Content Creation:
Content is king, and I’ve learned how true that is. From email campaigns to social media, blog posts, and YouTube Shorts, every piece of content contributes to engagement and brand growth. Video editing tools like OpenShot, CapCut, Descript, and creative tools like Canva and DALL·E have allowed me to bring ideas to life in visually engaging ways.

Balancing Freelance Work and Future Goals:
Working with nonprofits like the Battle River Lending Place Society and other clients taught me the art of prioritization and workflow management. Maintaining multiple websites while committing to impactful campaigns has reinforced the importance of clear communication, accurate scheduling, and staying disciplined with time.

The Bigger Picture:
Beyond the technical skills, I’ve learned the importance of connecting my work to a larger purpose. Whether it’s helping nonprofits raise funds or assisting businesses in building an online presence, understanding the “why” behind each project has been crucial. Digital marketing isn’t just about metrics; it’s about impact, storytelling, and building lasting connections.

Looking Ahead:
Every website built, every campaign launched, and every client interaction has been a stepping stone toward more sophisticated, strategic work. I’m constantly learning, and I approach each new project with curiosity, creativity, and a commitment to excellence. My journey has reinforced a simple truth: in digital work, as in life, growth comes from applying knowledge, experimenting boldly, and reflecting on results.

I’m grateful for every opportunity, every challenge, and every lesson along the way. The journey isn’t over; it’s only becoming more exciting as I continue to create, learn, and grow.
